In the recent past, Shreyas Iyer has become the most trusted batsman of Team India at number four. Captain Rohit Sharma called him ‘Silent Hero’ after winning the title in the Champions Trophy. In the last 8 ODIs, he has scored runs at number four with an average of 53.
Shreyas Iyer had to fight the perceptions made about the so -called technical shortage. He was typped. His contract was canceled. Iyer remained adamant and proceeded in spite of all this.
When asked about his weakness against short balls, Shreyas said in an interview to PTI, “Maybe such perception was made or I was typed.” But I always knew my strength, ability and trust myself.

He said, ‘The game keeps changing, so the player has to continuously improve his performance. I am glad that I could play with positive thinking and trust my process.
Last year, during the domestic Test series against England, he suffered a back injury and then had to lose Central contract, as he was practicing with his then IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) while he was to play Ranji Trophy. Under the captaincy of Shreyas, KKR won the IPL and then returned to the Indian ODI team.
Shreyas, who is going to captain Punjab Kings (PBKS) from this IPL season, said, ‘I did not think much and kept working honestly. I was confident that my honesty and performance would again give me a chance.

He said, ‘This era taught me a lot. I worked hard on my skills. I am happy with the result because a lot of hard work has been done behind it. Everyone worked hard from coach Praveen Amre Sir to trainer Sagar. Both of them helped me create the strength that now looks in my batting.
Shreyas also said that he feels comfortable in batting at number four. In the Champions Trophy, he scored the highest 243 runs in 5 matches for India. He said, ‘I think I am the most comfortable at number four. Whether the World Cup 2023 or Champions Trophy, I have enjoyed batting at number four.
