Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has said that it is very important to interact with the Taliban to establish permanent peace in the area. Speaking to reporters during an iftar party in Islamabad on Friday evening, Gandapur claimed that if he was entrusted with this responsibility, he can convince the Taliban for talks, as the negotiations are the only solution.

Gandapur claimed that he had drafted a dialogue scheme, in which he also included senior people of the tribes and sent it to the Ministry of External Affairs and Internal Ministry. However, even after two and a half months, he has not received any response.

‘I can interact with Taliban anytime’

He said that the Taliban would not refuse to hold talks with tribal elders and also claimed that Maulana Fazalur Rahman has no longer any effect on the Taliban. Gandapur also said that he can interact with Taliban leader Habatullah Akhundzada at any time, but till now he has not established any contact with the organization.

‘Political talks are not possible without the release of Imran Khan’

The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also clarified that no political dialogue is possible without the release of PTI leader and former Pak PM Imran Khan. He insisted that Imran Khan’s release is necessary to bring political stability in the country, because the situation was normal before his government was demolished, but after that terrorism and instability have increased.

‘Battle cannot win without public support’

Gandapur described public support against terrorism as important and said that no fight can be won without public support. He also emphasized the need for talks with Afghanistan and criticized those who opposed his dialogue proposals, saying that even the previous PMD government had decided to talk to the Taliban.
