Committed to human rights in Sri Lanka!

British Foreign Affairs Secretary David Lammy said, “Britain is committed to human rights in Sri Lanka and wants to make those responsible for human rights violations during the civil war.” He also said that the purpose of sanctions is to punish such criminals.

The ban has been imposed against General Silva after action taken by the US State Department in 2020. In 2023, Canada also imposed similar sanctions on former presidents Mahinda and Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
