During Holi in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, the police has registered a case in the case of openly offering prayers in a private university. The video of the incident has surfaced on social media. Ganga Nagar Station House Officer (SHO) Anoop Singh said that a case has been registered on the basis of the complaint of Karthik Hindu. IIMT University spokesman Sunil Sharma said that internal investigation found that the video was made with the intention of offering namaz in the open and spoiling the communal harmony.

“The university had requested police and administrative action against Khalid Pradhan, who had uploaded a video,” Sharma said. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 299 (intentionally and malicious work, which is aimed at intentionally and malicious work, insulting the religion or religious beliefs of a class) and a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.

The incident came into the limelight when a video uploaded by the student Khalid Pradhan (Khalid Mewati) showed the students offering prayers in the university campus. Local Hindu groups started protests due to the video. After the incident, the university administration suspended the head and three security personnel.

Local Hindu groups have demanded the arrest of the people involved in this, citing the participation of a large number of students and a broadcast of the video during Holi. At present, the police have registered an FIR and started investigating the entire case.
