According to Article 326 of the Indian Constitution, the franchise can only be given to the citizen of India. While the Aadhaar card only establishes the identity of the person. Consultation will start soon between technical experts
Technical counseling between technical experts of UIDAI and ECI is also going to start soon. To ensure fair and transparent elections in the country, the Election Commission has decided to find a permanent and scientific solution of allegations of disturbances in the voter list. This step is being taken to ensure the identity of those voters who are registered in more than one place as voters.
Political parties raised questions
This meeting has been held at a time when many political parties like Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP and BJD have raised the issue of voters with the same EPIC number. The Commission has admitted that due to the poor alphanumeric series in some states, only the same number were re -released, but it cannot be called a fraud. Now the Commission has taken active steps to find a concrete solution to this issue.
‘No Indian should be deprived of their vote’
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said in a social media post, ‘Today the Election Commission has announced that it will connect Aadhaar with voter ID cards. Congress and India alliance parties have been continuously raising issues of voter lists, including unusually adding high numbers, unexpectedly delete and duplicate voter ID data.
He said, ‘Although Aadhaar duplicate voter ID will help in dealing with the problem, poor and marginalized people may have to face difficulties in the linking process. ECI should ensure that no Indian is deprived of their vote, and confidential concerns are also resolved.
Rahul said, “Now that the Election Commission has accepted this problem, I reiterate my previous demand that it should also address the issue of adding and removing the name by publicly sharing the entire voter list of Maharashtra 2024 assembly and Lok Sabha elections.”
