Addressing the function, Chief Guest President Draupadi Murmu said that free and fair journalism is very important for democracy. He said that if the citizens of the country do not get the right information, then the democratic process will lose its importance. The President said that news media is called the fourth pillar of democracy because it has a big contribution in the creation of a modern nation. He said that a newsroom full of ideas is most important for the business of news.

The President said that media has an important role in avoiding fake news and preventing misinformation. He said that all citizens need to be made aware of the misuse of AI. In today’s era, AI has brought new challenges for all the sectors including journalism along with new opportunities. He said that human aspect is very important in journalism and this is the thing that keeps a journalist above AI.

President Draupadi Murmu presented these awards at a ceremony organized by Ramnath Goenka Memorial Foundation at the Oberoi Hotel in Delhi. Every year, Journalists of different disciplines doing excellent work in the field of journalism are given the Ramnath Goenka Award. In these, journalists of print, electronic and digital media are awarded the award.
