Police arrested four criminals from Bihar after the encounter in turmeric in Ballia district of UP and busted an interstate gang involved in ATM card fraud. Officials said that in the retaliation of the police, one accused was shot in the leg.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kripa Shankar told the media that on Wednesday night, police received information that some suspects were going in a car on a road going from cardiac tiraha to the Pipa bridge. According to the ACP, when the police tried to stop the vehicle for investigation, four suspects started trying to run away from the car. During the chase, one of the criminals opened fire on the police team with an illegal gun, after which the police retaliated. After this, one accused was shot in the right leg of an accused, after which the police arrested the four suspects and arrested them.

Injured suspect – Bacha Lal Mahato (27) of East Champaran district of Bihar has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment. The other three have been identified as Saheb Kumar Mahato (32), Madan Mahato (37) and Lal Babu Mahato (38), who are all from Bihar.

Police also seized two indigenous pistols (.315 bore), two live cartridges, two empty kiosks, 63 ATM cards of various banks, a Hyundai i20 car and Rs 5,200 cash from the accused.

During interrogation, the accused admitted to being part of a gang involved in ATM fraud. He used to target unknown persons. Frauds used to withdraw money from their ATM card or transfer.

The ACP said that the stolen amount was distributed among the gang members. The accused also confessed that they have cheated many people in Ballia and other districts of Uttar Pradesh as well as Delhi. Police records show that many cases have been registered against all three in Ballia, Delhi and other places. Police said that further investigation is going on to locate other gang members and their operations in different parts of the country.
