The Bangladesh army has dismissed the allegations of the newly formed student-led party National Citizen Party (NCP). On Sunday, the army issued a statement saying that the allegations made by the NCP are ridiculous. The NCP had alleged that the army is planning to rehabilitate the Awami League of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was evicted from the country.

The National Citizen Party staged a protest on Saturday at the Dhaka University campus in the capital Dhaka. The students protesting here had taken a pledge that they would allegedly thwart the conspiracy of the army at any cost. “It was just a political stunt,” the Army Headquarters said in a statement issued to Bangladesh-focused news outlet Netro News.
The army said that on March 11, Army Chief General Walker Ujan had met NCP leaders Hasanat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam at their residence in Dhaka Cantonment. However, it was just a ‘courtesy meeting’.

The statement came when the NCP accused the army of political intervention. NCP leader Hasanat Abdullah claimed that the army was trying to rehabilitate the ‘sophisticated’ Awami League. At the NCP rally on the Dhaka University campus, Abdullah’s supporters demanded slogans against the army chief as well as Hasina and her ‘colleagues’.
Two days ago, Abdullah posted a Facebook and claimed that ‘at the behest of India, there is a conspiracy to rehabilitate the Awami League in the name of the sophisticated Awami League. “
NCP organizer Nahid Islam supported Abdullah and said that the Army or any other state institution did not have the right to take a decision on politics. The army did not make any confrontation with the workers while remaining calm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina has been living in India since August 5 when she had to leave Bangladesh. Most of his senior party leaders and cabinet colleagues are either arrested or absconding. The BNP of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia said that she has no objection to Hasina’s return under the clean leadership of Hasina in politics.
Yunus said that his government has no intention of banning the Awami League, but the leaders who are accused of crimes will be impartially tested.
