Justice Yashwant Verma Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay, who is investigating the case of alleged cash from the government bungalow, has submitted his report to Chief Justice of India Justice Sanjeev Khanna. CJI will take further action based on this investigation report. Senior judge of Delhi High Court Yashwant Verma came into the limelight when reports of large scale cash from his government residence came to light.
In fact, on March 14, on the night of Holi, there was an incident of fire in Justice Verma’s government residence in Lutyens Delhi. Justice Yashwant Verma was not at home then and went out of Delhi for some work. His family members sought help from the fire brigade to extinguish the fire. The Delhi Fire Department immediately sent a team to the judge’s house. After this, there were reports in the media that a huge amount of cash was seen in the government bungalow of Justice Verma.

Justice Yashwant Verma transferred to Allahabad High Court
Meanwhile, on March 20, Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna called a collegium meeting. In this meeting, a proposal to transfer Justice Verma to the Allahabad High Court was brought. Also, the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court was handed over an investigation into the matter. Based on this investigation report, the transfer of Justice Verma has to be decided. However, a new twist in the case came when Delhi Fire Brigade Chief Atul Garg claimed that the firefighters did not get any cash while extinguishing the fire at Justice Yashwant Verma’s residence.
Delhi Fire Department refuses to get cash
Atul Garg said, ‘The control room was reported to be on fire at Justice Verma’s residence at 11.35 pm on March 14. Two fire engines were immediately sent to the spot. Fire brigade reached the spot at 11.43 pm. The fire was in a store room filled with stationery and household items, which took the fire fighters 15 minutes to control. Soon after extinguishing the fire, we informed the police about the incident. Our firefighters did not get any cash while extinguishing the fire.

Justice Yashwant Verma did not reach the Delhi High Court on Friday nor did there be any denying the allegations against him. Justice Verma is currently presiding over the bench hearing important cases like sales tax, GST, company appeal in Delhi High Court. He is the second most senior judge of the court. Justice Yashwant Verma was appointed in the Delhi High Court on 11 October 2021.
Justice Verma’s protest against transfer in Allahabad High Court
Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association has opened a front against the transfer of Justice Yashwant Verma from Delhi High Court. Bar Association President Anil Tiwari said, ‘The Allahabad High Court is not a garbage or corruption base, where the accused Justice in any corruption should be transferred. This decision of the Supreme Court Collegium reflects the intention of breaking the Allahabad High Court, but the Bar Association will not let this happen. His duty is to maintain the trust of the general public in the judiciary.
