The dispute began when a group of Punjab waved the flag with a photo of Bhindranwale on their bikes in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. This incident has increased tension between the two states.
A man from Manali lodged a complaint with the police that he saw two people of Punjab with a picture of Bhindranwale on the flag. When he asked them to remove it, the bike riders allegedly threatened him. There were at least three different incidents in the region, where videos went viral on social media, due to which many Sikh groups have reacted strongly.

Himachal bus targeted
Amid controversy, a bus from Himachal Pradesh was targeted in Kharad in Mohali. At around 7 pm on Tuesday evening, two people came in an Alto car and stopped the Himachal Roadways bus and broke its windows. The bus was going from Chandigarh to Hamirpur. However, no passenger casualties were reported in this incident. The Punjab Police has registered a case and warned of strict action against those who disturb the peace.
Basic tension has increased due to this dispute. On Tuesday, the Dal Khalsa Group also demonstrated against the Himachal Pradesh government in Hoshiarpur. He put up posters of Bhindranwale on vehicles coming from Himachal in Punjab. On this issue, the opposition party BJP has also expressed concern about the growing Khalistani support.
The person who disturbs will be dealt with seriously
Leader of Opposition in Himachal Assembly Jairam Thakur alleged that Himachal Pradesh buses and vehicles are being targeted. He also said that the flags of Khalistani militant are being placed in public places and there is no action of the government on this.

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu, while responding to the opposition’s criticism, said that the safety of Himachal buses will be ensured and assured to negotiate with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
DSP Karan Singh Sandhu appealed to maintain peace and said that any person who disturbs peace will be dealt with seriously. He said, “We reached the spot to ensure the safety of the driver and conductor. We have registered a case and started investigating the matter.”
