DK Shivakumar – ‘If the claim is proved to be true, then I will retire from politics …’, DK Shivkumar said on the constitution statement

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar has rejected the allegations leveled by the BJP. It was said in these allegations that DK Shivkumar has vowed to amend the Constitution for arranging four percent reservation for Muslims in the state.

Shivkumar said that if such claims prove to be true, then he will retire from politics. The Congress leader’s statement came at a time when the BJP protested across the state on Tuesday demanding his resignation in the matter.

Cleaning to high command

Shivkumar said, “BJP is unable to digest the truth and my political attitude mentioned in the interview. Where do I have said that I am going to change the constitution? If I had said so, I would have accepted it. We have brought the constitution and we are protecting it. Our leaders are intelligent and they have seen the interview.”

He said, “These are the leaders of the BJP who said that they will change the constitution. If I have ever said that I will change the constitution, then I will retire from politics.” When asked if the Congress high command had sought an explanation, he said, “Yes, he has sought an explanation. I have asked him to review the interview in detail. They agree that I have not said anything like that.”

BJP is attacking Congress

In a media program on Sunday, Shivkumar allegedly suggested that a “good day” could come when the constitution can be changed to adjust quota for Muslims. However, the Congress leader claimed on Monday that his point was presented in a wrong way and “never said that we would change the constitution.”

Meanwhile, the BJP has made a scathing attack on the Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and the Congress party, alleging that his remarks on Muslim quota have highlighted the “hidden agenda” of the party to change the constitution. On Monday, the BJP raised this issue in Parliament. Former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged at a press conference, “Changing the constitution for votes is the Congress’s hidden agenda.” He described Shivkumar’s remarks as “beginning”.

Many other BJP leaders also talked similar. Shivkumar accused BJP leaders and ministers at Karnataka and Center of resorting to the Congress and “shameless and sheer” lies to defame them. The Karnataka Legislative Assembly passed a bill to provide four percent reservation for Muslims in public contracts amidst strict opposition from opposition BJP.
