IPL 2025 Opening Match Likely to Get Abandoned: The current champion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Kolkata Knight Riders is ready to face Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match of the season on Saturday (March 22). However, just a day before the opening ceremony, a shocking news has come out from Kolkata. The first match of this season is in danger of completely canceling, as the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms and rain in South Bengal from Thursday to Sunday. Orange alert has been issued for 22 March on the first day of IPL 2025, while Yellow alert has been issued for Sunday.

According to Aqueder, Kolkata has 74% chances of rain on Saturday, while the possibility of cloudy is 97%. The possibility of rain in the evening will be up to 90%. Therefore, it is almost certain that on the first day of the 18th edition of the IPL, there will be a lot of rain in the Eden Gardens. It is also difficult to say whether KKR and RCB will be able to play enough overs to bring results.

By the way, a match to be held at Eden Gardens is already being rested. Cab (Cricket Association of Bungalow) President Snehashish Ganguly had earlier said that on April 6, the domestic match of Knight Riders against Lucknow Super Giants is scheduled to be transferred to Guwahati, as the police have expressed their inability to provide security for the IPL match due to the ‘Ram Navami’ ceremony that day in the city.

BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari had announced that more than 20,000 processions are being taken out in West Bengal to celebrate the festival.
