Israeli’s Netanyahu government shocked! The Supreme Court banned the dismissal of Shin Bet chief – Israel Top Court Temporary Halts Netanyahu’s Dismissal of the Country Internal Security Curity Chief Reports AP NTC
The Supreme Court of Israel on Friday imposed a temporary stay on the decision of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to remove the domestic security agency Shin Bet’s chief Ronen Bar. The court said that this ban will continue till the final hearing on the matter is held before April 8.
Earlier, Netanyahu’s cabinet unanimously approved the dismissal of Ronen Bar. Netanyahu’s office had announced that the dismissal of the bar would be effective from April 10, but if the government gets a new head before, then this decision may also apply quickly.
Attorney General objected
The Attorney General of Israel has questioned this decision and said that the cabinet has no legal basis to dismiss the bar. He says that this decision can violate the legal process.
Shin Bet recently released a report regarding the attack of Hamas on October 7, 2023. It was admitted in this report that there was some lapse from the security agency, causing Hamas attack. But at the same time, the report also said that the policies of the Netanyahu government had prepared the background of this attack.
Political dispute intensified
The case of the dismissal of Ronen Bar can bring a stir in Israeli politics. Opposition parties allege that the Netanyahu government is making security officials a scapegoat to hide its failures. Now everyone’s eyes are on the next hearing of the Supreme Court, which can be before 8 April. It will be decided only after this hearing whether Ronen will continue in his post or not.
