Karnataka: Treasury empty for the public … 100 % Epressel of CM, Minister, MLAs, Full Story of Politicil Salary Hike – Karnataka MLA Salary Hike Amid Cash Crunch for Development Works Dk Shivkumar Ntcppl
The Karnataka government has applied its appraisal in the epresseel season. This appraisal has not been 10 or 20 percent. Rather, the entire 100 percent has been done. The salary of the Chief Minister, Speaker, Minister and MLAs has become directly double in this state, which cries the lack of funds for development works.
Home Minister Ji Parmeshwar has cited rising inflation to increase the salary of the Chief Minister, Minister and MLAs.
Home Minister Ji Parmeshwar said, “Its justification is that their expenses are increasing along with other people. The common man is upset and MLAs are also upset. So there have been recommendations from MLAs and other people and that is why the Chief Minister has taken this decision. Everyone has to run expenses and the Chief Minister will arrange for this money from some account.”
It is worth noting that this step of the Karnataka government has come to the fore when the state government has been continuously cited for the lack of funds for development works.
MLA of Karnataka is the richest in the country
Apart from this, the study of an NGO has said that the MLAs of Karnataka are the most rich in the country.
The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has said that the assets of 100 MLAs of Karnataka are more than 100-100 crores. In this way, the MLAs of Karnataka are the most rich in the country.
Four of India’s top 10 richest MLAs are from Karnataka.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar is the second most rich MLA in the country with assets of Rs 1413 crore. Parag Shah is the BJP MLA from Ghatkopar East in Maharashtra at number one.
The report has also revealed that out of 119 billionaires of India, 76 (63 percent) are from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra only three states.
MLA rich, government poor
But it is ironic that in Karnataka with rich people’s representatives, the government cries the lack of funds for development works.
A few months ago, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivkumar had said that there is no money for development works in the state. Because the state government has allocated 40 thousand crores to fulfill the 5 promises made during the election. After this, the state government has a shortage of money for development works.
DK Shivkumar made this comment when the Congress MLAs expressed displeasure at not getting money from the government for the development of their region.
In December 2023, the Karnataka government announced that the state may have to increase its borrowing, as sufficient funds were not available for development works due to guarantee schemes.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had estimated a borrowing of ₹ 85,818 crore in the budget of 2023-24, and indicated that there could be a delay in giving priority to development works.
Decision to increase salary by bringing two bills
The Karnataka government has brought two bills to increase the salary of the Minister, Speaker, Minister and MLAs. These bills are- Karnataka Ministers Cellies and Allowance (Amendment) Bill 2025 and Karnataka Legislarse Members Sellies, Pension and Allowance ((Amendment) Bill 2025. Both these bills have passed from the assembly.
Due to passing this bill, the salary of MLAs and Legislative Councilors has increased from 40 thousand to 80 thousand rupees.
The salary of ministers has increased from 60 thousand to 1.25 lakhs. While the salary of the Chief Minister has increased from Rs 75 thousand to Rs 1.5 lakh.
Karnataka Minister of State MB Patil also supported the salary hike and said that the recommendation of an independent committee has justified the decision. Patil told, “There is nothing wrong in the increase in the salary and allowances of the legislators, if we do it ourselves it is not appropriate; that is why there is a committee that has recommended.
MB Patil said that you take the example, Prime Minister, Minister and MP get the highest salary in the world. Which makes them very independent, not corrupt. We cannot compare our salary to Singapore, but still appropriate salary should be given. “
Let us know that the BJP did not oppose this bill that brought salary. Due to increasing salary of MLAs, the state government will cost a burden of Rs 10 crore every year.
