Flights at London’s Heathro Airport started late Friday night after being closed for 18 hours. A fire broke out at Europe’s busiest airport on Friday disrupted power supply for the day, causing thousands of passengers to get stuck and air travel disruptions worldwide.

Heathro Airport Administration said in a statement that his teams tirelessly tried to normalize the situation, as the airport had to be completely closed after a fierce fire in a nearby substation on Thursday night. Passengers were instructed to vacate the airport premises.

After the flight operation started at Heathro Airport, the first aircraft landed on Friday evening. The Airport Administration said that it is expected that the airport will start completely operating on Saturday. Heathro’s CEO Thomas Woldboy said, “From tomorrow morning we are expecting to return to 100% operation like normal days.” Thomas Woldboy said, ‘I want to apologize to all the people whose journey has been affected. We are very sorry for this inconvenience to the passengers.

Earlier, Heathro Airport said in a statement, ‘Heathro has a huge reduction due to fire in an electric substation supplying electricity to the airport. To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, Heathro will remain closed till 23:59 pm on 21 March. Passengers are advised not to come to the airport and contact your airline for more information. We are sorry for inconvenience. The police have denied any disturbance in the incident, although the investigation is still going on. The London Fire Brigade said that its investigation would be focused on power distribution equipment.
