The Madhya Pradesh government has ordered an inquiry into the serious allegations against Sidhi district collector Swarochish Somvanshi. He is accused of repeatedly entering the core area of Sanjay Tiger Reserve in his private vehicle, which is a violation of the Wildlife Protection Act and the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) rules.
Environment activist Ajay Dubey has lodged a complaint with the forest department, in which he has said that Collector Somvanshi goes to a private car in a tiger reserve every week in a private car. They not only go to restricted areas, but also reach very close to tigers.
It has also been alleged in the complaint that the collector pressures the forest officials and also safari on Wednesday afternoon, while the park is closed for the common tourists on this day.
Government ordered inquiry
Sanjay Tiger Reserve Field Director Amit Kumar said that he has received a letter from the forest department regarding this matter. To investigate the case, Narendra Ravi, Deputy Divisional Officer (SDO) of Majhauli has been appointed as investigating officer. They will soon investigate and submit their report.
An attempt was made to contact Collector Swarochish Somvanshi on this matter, but he did not respond to phone calls and messages.
