Opposition to action on madrasas in Uttarakhand, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind knocked the door of Supreme Court-Jamiat Ulema E Hind Reached Supreme Court Protesting Against action on Madrassas in Uttar Pradesh

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the action being taken by the administration on madrasas and masks in Uttarakhand. The organization says that many madrasas have been sealed by the state government without any notice and they were not even given an opportunity to give their clarification.

Describing this action as unconstitutional and illegal, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Arshad Madani said that it is a violation of the fundamental rights of the students, as they are not able to continue their religious education.

He gave this information on social media platform X. Madani said that the petition has appealed to the Indian Constitution and the Supreme Court’s order of 21 October 2024 that the administration should be instructed to open all madrasas and makatabas immediately and should be prevented from any further intervention. The organization has also called it a contempt of court.

Administration action and dispute over madrasas

The Uttarakhand government had recently started investigating many madrasas and some were also sealed. The government says that this action has been taken on institutions that do not follow education related rules. However, madrasa organizations claim that it is a violation of religious freedom and right to education.
