The Gujarat government has taken an important decision regarding admission under RTE i.e. Right to Education Act. Till now, the income limit for RTE admission in rural areas was Rs 1.20 lakh and Rs 1.50 lakh in urban areas. It has been decided to increase this to Rs 6 lakh per year. That is, now parents with income up to Rs 6 lakh will be able to apply for their children.
Announcing this, the Minister of State for Education, Gujarat, Praful Panseeyana, said that this decision will give a big relief for the poor middle class families. The RTE admission process is still going on, while the government has extended the last date of online application along with the decision to increase the income limit. Parents can now apply online till 15 April.
Under the Right to Education Act, more than 93 thousand students will be given admission in private schools in various districts of Gujarat. Admission will be given in 14,778 seats in Ahmedabad city and 2,262 seats in the district. 15,229 seats will be available in 994 schools in Surat city and 3,913 seats in 388 schools in rural areas.
Last year, Surat city had 12,000 seats and more than 4,000 seats in rural areas. Admission will be given in 4,800 seats in a total of 333 schools under RTE in Vadodara. There has been an increase of 1500 seats as compared to the previous year. In Rajkot city and district, 6,640 students will be able to take admission in 921 private schools in the year 2025.
