The Supreme Court of America may consider the petition of Tawwur Rana, accused in the 26/11 Mumbai attack, in which he has demanded a ban on extradition of India. This petition has been sent to the Supreme Court judges and it will be considered in a private conference on 4 April 2025.

63 -year -old Tehwavur Rana is currently lodged in Los Angeles jail. He is considered a close aide of David Headley, a member of the Pakistani terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (Let) and the mastermind of the 26/11 attack. 166 people died in this fierce terrorist attack in Mumbai in 2008.

Copy of petition sent to judges

A copy of the petition of Tahwwur Rana has been sent to the judges, so that they can consider it before the conference. Usually, only a few of such petitions are selected for detailed discussion, while the rest may be dismissed without any debate.

The consent of at least four judges is required to carry forward a petition. The court usually announces its decisions in the open court on the next working day. On 21 January, the US Supreme Court rejected the review petition filed by Rana.

Trump approves the extradition of Tehwavur Rana

Last month, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a visit to America, President Donald Trump said that his government has approved Rana’s extradition. Trump called Rana a ‘very dangerous person’. In 2011, India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a charge sheet against Tehwwur Rana and eight other people, alleging that all conspiring and carrying out the Mumbai attack.
