On Wednesday, a video went viral in Rajapur, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, in which some people were seen trying to push a mosque gate with a tree trunk. After this incident, the police have registered an FIR for shouting slogans and illegal crowds. This incident is said to be part of the annual Shimga procession to be held during Holi in Konkan region.
According to Rajapur police, this procession starts from Rajapur village every year and goes to Dhopeshwar temple two kilometers away. In the procession, a long wooden stem, called Madachi Miravanuk – is taken out. This procession passes through the mosque located at Jawahar Chowk.

Dispute during procession
It is said that traditionally, this stem is placed on the stairs of the mosque, but this year some people tried to push the mosque gate. Slogans were also followed by the incident, although the local police took the situation under control.
Kudal MLA and Shiv Sena leader Nilesh Rane released a video, in which he said that the gate of the mosque was closed this year, which led to a tension situation. He said that media and some politicians are presenting the situation by exaggerating, while the situation in Ratnagiri is peaceful.
What did AIMIM leaders say
AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi questioned Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the law and order of the state. He said, “It is shameful to attack the mosque in the presence of police.” At the same time, advocate Owais Pekhakar condemned the incident in a letter to the Superintendent of Police and demanded the arrest of the accused. He has described this incident as a trauma on Hindu-Muslim unity.

Police action
Rajapur Police has registered an FIR for illegal gathering under Section 135 of Maharashtra Police Act against unknown accused. The police is investigating the case and claimed that the video spreading false rumors has been removed. Currently, the situation in Ratnagiri is peaceful and no law and order has been disturbed.
