Ekrem Imamoglu said that the university’s decision is illegal and out of its jurisdiction, and he will give it a legal challenge.

In recent weeks, the authorities have started an investigation into the alleged forgery of official documents related to the university diploma of Imamoglu.

Critics said that this is the latest attempt by the state to use the judiciary to prevent disagreement.

Imamoglu’s lawyer Mehmat Pahalwan said that there was no irregularity in the mayor’s diploma.

In a post on X on Tuesday, the lawyer said that the board of directors of the university did not have the right to take such a decision and described it as meaningless.

Imamoglu has been considered as a strong rival of Erdogan for a long time. Erdogan has ruled Turkey for more than two decades. If they want to contest again under the Constitution, then they will have to conduct elections ahead of scheduled time in 2028.
